Nutella Banana Cream Pie (Gluten Free and Paleo)

Gluten Free
Paleo

Would you believe this decadent Nutella Banana Cream Pie is gluten free and paleo-friendly!?Even though I spent a lot of my free time writing about food, I’d never consider myself a food writer. Food is poetry in and of itself, and it takes a special kind of talent to elevate the experience of cooking and eating food, beyond the sight, the smells, the textures and, most importantly, the flavor, with words alone. I can talk about food all day long but I can never find the words to compose the kind of poetry that most food demands  – and deserves.

I’ve been staring at this pie for the better part of a half hour, trying to determine what on earth words could contribute to this dish. This pie leaves no room for improvement that can be filled with words, however right, however eloquent, however evocative. This pie leaves me at a loss for words.

Instead, can I tell you how this pie came to be? I had a vision, you see. A vision of being one of those elusive People Who Are Good At Pie, someone who can just throw together the perfect crust out of instinct and that crust was somehow crispy and rich and delicate and flaky all at the same time. And chocolate. I did mention that the crust was supposed to be chocolate, right?

Would you believe this decadent Nutella Banana Cream Pie is gluten free and paleo-friendly!?

So I followed my instinct and threw together this crust that, in my mind and on paper, was simply irresistible. In my mind, it tasted like Oreo cookies, but was still grain free and, simply put, divine.

In reality, it tasted like chocolate packing peanuts.

As you can see, the pie continued to evolve to include a lightly sweetened (non-chocolate) crust, homemade dairy-free whipped cream and, of course, homemade Nutella Not-tella. You can get the recipe for the irresistible dessert on Texanerin.com, where I am guest posting today!

Seriously stop it. Just stop! Okay if there is ever a recipe that I like NEED to make from your site, its this one. It’s all my favorite things curled into one. After my finals are over this is so how I plan on treating myself 🙂 Oh and your almond chocolate chip cookies!
P.S. I love how you started this post, what with food being poetry in itself. That is so, so true and I constantly feel like my posts never live up to how good the food really is. But you are right with this banana cream pie. No words needed.

Can’t stop won’t stop! You deserve a treat after a tough semester, and if I can’t be there to make you a pie myself, I am glad that at least this recipe is speaking to you! 🙂

I’ve got no poetic prose when it comes to writing about food, either…I just kinda tell people to slam things in their facetraps and they won’t be sorry, ha! You’re a very talented writer – way more so than you give yourself credit for!! I can tell you from reading this post that I really must make this insanely healthy layered banana cream pie. And I don’t even make pie. But I want to slam this thing in my facetrap like nooooobody’s business!! Happy Friday!

I have never once been sorry about slamming any of your recipes in my facetrap! So, you speak the truth! This is what I would call the pie for non-pie people (I am one of those people!) 🙂 Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Haha chocolate packing peanuts! Why do the best-sounding recipes in our heads always be the ones that take so long to get it right?! This looks fantastic, btw, something that I definitely need to try!

Why, indeed!? It’s the curse of the overly-ambitious recipe developer’s mind (not a bad thing) 😉

Oh my goodness, this pie is literally perfection. I completely understand; there are some desserts that are so indescribably good. The only way to fully appreciate them is to just make it (: Thanks for sharing a wonderful recipe; now I’m craving Nutella! But then again, I’m always in the state of I-want-Nutella.
